Armie Hammer, 39, is speaking out regarding his dramatic fall from grace in 2021, after he was accused of rape, psychological and sexual abuse, and associated with alleged leaked messages about cannibalism and other dark fantasies.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter published on June 16, the Social Network actor did not purport to be completely innocent, but denied many of the allegations he faced.

“I made these problems for myself,” he said. “This didn’t happen to me by a fluke accident. I didn’t do what people are saying I did. But I brought very dangerous and unsafe people into my life, and I pissed off people in my life—and here we are.”

Regarding his state of mind at the time, he said, “I remember the emotional state and the mental state I was in before all that happened. Healthy people don’t act the way I was acting.”

Two years after the accusations came forward, in 2023, the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office chose not to file charges against the actor due to “insufficient evidence.”

At the time, Tiffiny Blacknell, director of the bureau of communications, said in a statement, per People: “Sexual assault cases are often difficult to prove, which is why we assign our most experienced prosecutors to review them. In this case, those prosecutors conducted an extremely thorough review, but determined that at this time, there is insufficient evidence to charge Mr. Hammer with a crime.”

In addition to discussing his past transgressions with THR, Hammer also revealed his current financial situation. Though he’s the great-grandson of the late oil tycoon Armand Hammer, the actor didn’t receive any money when his father died in 2022.

“It’s just one of those things that’s so complicated, you have to be a tax attorney to fully understand it,” he said, referring to the estate. “But the end result was not I’m set for the rest of my life, or even for the next couple of years. It hasn’t been that.”

Hammer, who was previously married to Elizabeth Chambers, appears to be slowly reentering public life. On June 9, he was photographed during a rare outing in California alongside a mystery lady. In photos obtained by People, the pair was spotted at a Hollywood restaurant called Pace.

He also has several movies in the works, telling The Hollywood Reporter that he was so ready to return to work that he “would have done a fucking cat food commercial.”
