Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Apples
Start by peeling, coring, and cutting each apple into 8 slices, giving you a total of 16 wedges. It’s essential to use firmer apples, as they hold their shape better during cooking.
Step 2: Wrap the Apples
Unroll the crescent dough and separate it into triangles. Place 2 apple slices on the wide end of each triangle, fold in the sides slightly, and roll it up. Arrange each dumpling seam-side down in a greased slow cooker.
Step 3: Add the Sauce
In a separate bowl, mix the melted butter and brown sugar until well combined. Pour this mixture evenly over the dumplings without stirring—this will transform into a rich caramel sauce as the dumplings cook.
Step 4: Cook to Perfection
Cover the slow cooker and cook on HIGH for 2 to 2½ hours or on LOW for 4 to 4½ hours. The dumplings are ready when they are puffed up and the sauce is bubbling.
