The sight was already unpleasant, and the thought of consuming them was out of the question. My husband suggested we head back to the store for a refund, but I wanted to investigate further before taking action.

To our surprise, we discovered that the strange lumps were calcium deposits, which are actually made from the same material as eggshells.
