Rocking a new look got a big reaction from Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson‘s kids.
After Johnson transformed to become his beloved character Maui in the live-action version of Disney’s Moana set to premiere in theatres July 10, the WWE alum—dad to Simone, 24, with ex Dany Garcia, as well as Jasmine, 10 and Tiana, 8, with wife Lauren Hashian—couldn’t forget the moment he debuted the new look for his children.
“The first time they saw me as Maui, they were like, ‘Oh,'” Johnson exclusively told E! News’ Will Marfuggi while reenacting a taken aback facial expression. “It was jarring for them for maybe 10 minutes. Just to see me with hair, and I get it, it’s a lot of hair.”
And though it’s not the first time Johnson switched up his hairstyle to embody a memorable figure on screen, he understood why his brood—as well as vocal fans on the internet—might have a big reaction to the transformation.
“It’s not like Smashing Machine, where it’s just a little bit [of hair],” Johnson explained, referencing his 2025 film about UFC fighter Mark Kerr while adding, “This is long, beautiful, luscious.”
